Beneath The Light
UNICORN THEATRE LONDON (UK) - BY DANIELLE SIBLEY DIRECTED BY IAIN REEKIE - DESIGN BY FRIIS
As the world on the surface grew darker and colder the Master came up with a plan to build a world under the streets. A home for the lost and abandoned children who no one else wanted, a home where there is food, comfort and music.
A play set in a post-apocalyptic alternative world, and about a group of children who are abandoned for unknown reasons by their “master” in an underground bunker. Only the oldest have ever been outside and the tension builds as some want to leave for help as one of the children becomes pregnant.
The design was centred around a single element as the power of the “master” manifests itself through an enormous painting of him in uniform covering the whole stage above an elevated altar area.
